Pages marked 'example' are demonstration bridges showing what a memorial looks like — not real families. The small lines beneath each are examples of what Memory Weather surfaces over time.

Remembrance

Smooth Collies are remembered for the vigilance that never looked like vigilance — the quiet positioning at the edge of the room where they could see every door, every child, every shift in the household. They had the Collie mind without the Collie coat, and that sleek, clean-lined silhouette made them look less like a herding dog and more like a sentinel who happened to live in your house.

They organized a family without anyone noticing. The Smooth Collie knew who was home, who was late, who had gone upstairs, and who had left the gate open. They managed these things with a glance and a repositioning. When they were gone, the household discovered how much of its rhythm had been theirs.

People always asked if she was a mix. I'd say she was a Smooth Collie and they'd nod like they understood. They didn't. She ran our house and nobody knew it but me.

What to remember

When you create a bridge, these prompts help you hold the details that matter most — the ones that fade first.

01

Where did they position themselves in the house? Which doorway or corner let them see the most — and did they always choose it?

02

How did they keep track of the family? Did they follow, or did they find the one spot where they could monitor everyone at once?

03

What did strangers get wrong about them? Did people assume they were a mix, or ask what breed they were — and how did you explain?

04

How did they herd without a flock? What household behavior did they try to organize — children, guests, the cat?

05

What was the thing about their coat — the way it felt, the way it looked in the light, the way it was nothing like what people expected from a Collie?

06

What did they do when the household was upset — an argument, a crying child, raised voices? How did they intervene?

Words that stayed

She had the sleekest coat in the room and the sharpest mind. People underestimated her because she didn't look like the Collie they expected. That was her advantage.

physical

He herded the children into the kitchen every evening at six. We never taught him that. He never stopped doing it.

funny

Nobody is watching the door anymore. Nobody knows who's home and who isn't. We didn't realize she was the one keeping track.

absence

She made exactly one friend at the dog park. One. And she chose well — they walked together for nine years.

character

Thirteen years of quiet supervision. The house has been disorganized ever since.

The math

Smooth Collies typically live 12–14 years.

Smooth Collies share the Rough Collie's predisposition to Collie Eye Anomaly and progressive retinal atrophy, which can diminish vision in their later years. The MDR1 gene mutation makes them sensitive to certain common medications. Dermatomyositis and nasal aspergillosis are breed-specific concerns. Many families notice the awareness dimming gradually — the dog who saw everything beginning to miss things.

If your Smooth Collie is in their senior years, this is the right time to start their bridge — while the specific memories are still sharp.

The shape of this loss

The disorientation is specific to Smooth Collie families. The household had a manager — someone who tracked every arrival, every departure, every child's location — and now it does not. The systems the Collie ran invisibly are the ones you discover only after they stop running.

Most people didn't know what breed they were. That is part of the grief — explaining both the dog and the breed in the same sentence, to people who picture Lassie and cannot reconcile that image with what you lost. The Smooth Collie was quieter, sleeker, and less famous. The love was not quieter or less.

They organized your life. Now you are on your own.

Memory Weather

How a bridge deepens with time

Over time, WenderBridge surfaces patterns already present in the photos and memories you choose to keep here.

Your Smooth Collie's photos reveal a consistent position — the same doorway or vantage point across years of family gatherings.

Memory Weather notices the children. They grow taller in the photos. The Collie's gaze follows them in every frame.

The backyard appears across all four seasons. The Collie is always at the perimeter, always facing inward.

Memory Weather is available with Full settings.
